Recipient: The Groundwater Foundation
Location: Nebraska
Project Budget: $50,000
WFTW Grant: $25,000
Farmers in the heavily-irrigated Republican River basin of Nebraska, facing severe water
shortages and allocations, needed a tool to help them raise the best possible crops and still
stay within water use guidelines.
They got this tool through The Groundwater Foundation, which used a Water for the West
grant to coordinate the creation of an on-line, interactive, analytical spread sheet package.
Utilizing expertise from the University of Nebraska, farmers use spread sheets to assess their
water needs and make appropriate management decisions.
A series of educational programs about water issues was presented basin-wide as part of the
project.
